Our
first step was the formation of a life-to-life link between the New
York theater community and North Rampart Street Community Center (site
of our musical production, ONCE ON THIS ISLAND). By getting to know its
people and programs, the foundation was better able to assist the
community center staff in re-establishing ongoing programs and setting
up new opportunities for youth -- by providing the needed funds and
offering technical and moral support.
With our foundation firmly established and North Rampart Street
Community Center open and thriving, After The Storm is committed to
expanding our work with the center by creating a year round theater
arts program, something that has never existed at the Center. In
2009, we will launch our program with a one-week summer camp, followed
by year round weekend workshops and a mentoring program with NOCCA (New
Orleans Center for Creative Arts) for aspiring performers. |
